The girl was sitting on the floor of a restaurant in Hanoi when a waiter came by to order a cup of coffee.
She didn’t even look up to ask for it, but instead sat down in front of the window, a smile on her face.
She looked up to the waiter, and smiled back.
“Oh, I’m so happy to see you,” the waiter said.
The girl didn’t know that it was the waiter who had just come in.
She smiled at him and walked off.
The video went viral on social media, with many commenters pointing out that it didn’t happen in a restaurant, and that the girl’s mother had been in the same restaurant and saw the exchange.
The waiter, however, was furious.
“What you did to my wife and my daughter is beyond bad, my wife will be in jail for three years for it,” he told reporters at the time.
The young woman was arrested and charged with violating a local ban on kissing.
The woman, who is now in her 20s, said she was embarrassed by the incident and felt guilty about it.
“I think I was very drunk,” she told ABC News.
“That was the first time I was really embarrassed, like, I did something wrong.”
However, the girl said that she never imagined kissing a girl to be such a taboo thing to do.
“It was just, I don’t think I would have done it if I wasn’t a girl,” she said.
“In Vietnam, if you kiss a girl, it’s considered a bad thing to kiss her.”
