Chinese girls are becoming the next generation of internet stars, with many choosing to travel to the US and Canada in order to make a career.
While they have never been as famous as their US counterparts, they are definitely making an impact.
The first girls to make the leap to the internet were 13-year-old Chih-Hui Wang and her friend, 18-year old Zhaolong Zhang, who in 2014, went to the United States to study English.
They were among more than 200,000 students who went to school in the US in the 2016-17 school year.
In 2016, Chih said she would love to go back to China to pursue her dream of becoming an actor.
“I love going to school here in the States.
I feel very safe here, with my friends,” she said.
The Chinese internet is full of girls like Chih, Zhang and Wang.
As of June, there were almost 3 million female internet users, according to NetEase, and that number is expected to reach 6 million by 2021.
A recent study from Pew Research Center found that about 10% of girls aged 13 to 17 have an internet connection in China.
Chinese internet users spend $3 billion per year on internet, according the study.
Chih-Yi Wang, a 13-years-old Chinese girl, was the first girl to go to America to study english.

“I would love it if we could go to other countries like the UK and US to work, but right now, we’re just here.”
While Chih and her friends have the right to make their dreams come true, there is no guarantee they will make it happen.
Chih told The New York Times that it is too early to tell if their ambitions will be realized, because she and her family have not yet found a job in China to make it to the mainland.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to go [to the mainland],” she said, adding that she and Zhang are both studying English to become doctors.
I think it’s going to be a little hard, but I’m still excited, and it’s not too late for me to go and do it.
“Zhang told The Times that the Chinese internet scene is “very exciting”.”
It’s very much like a bubble, and we don’t have much information yet about it, but it’s very exciting,” she told The Telegraph.
According to the study, the number of Chinese internet users in the United Kingdom has grown by more than 700% in the last decade.
